SEC: U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
The federal securities regulator. RegPing reads its press releases, litigation releases and administrative proceedings.

The SEC runs three enforcement streams that barely overlap. Press releases cover the cases the agency wants noticed. Litigation releases cover civil actions in federal court, most of which get no press release. Administrative proceedings are orders posted as PDFs with a respondent's name and nothing else in the feed. A firm tracking its own exposure needs all three, and the SEC's RSS feeds hold only 25 items each, so a busy day can push notices out of the feed before a daily poll sees them.
What SEC publishes
- Press releases (numbered by year, e.g. 2026-85)
- Litigation releases (LR-26632 and counting, HTML pages)
- Administrative proceedings (orders as PDFs, release numbers 33-, 34-, IA-, IC-)
- Trading suspensions (rare: three in 2026 through September)
- Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Releases (AAERs), which are administrative orders tagged with a second number
- Staff bulletins, no-action letters and public statements
Cadence. About 150 press releases and 250 to 300 litigation releases a year. FY2025 enforcement results, published unusually late in April 2026, reported 456 actions and $17.9 billion in ordered relief, of which the Stanford Ponzi judgments were $14.9 billion. Expect several litigation releases and administrative orders on a heavy day.
What to treat as urgent
- Orders instituting proceedings against a firm in your business line, especially with a bar or suspension.
- Trading suspensions naming an issuer you hold or market.
- Proposed rules with a comment deadline; the press release is the only place the deadline is plain.
- Litigation releases with 'final judgment' for cases you had been following.
Quirks worth knowing
- Feed items for orders link straight to PDFs; the feed description is only the respondent's name.
- The site was reorganized in July 2024 and many old paths now 404 or silently alias.
- The SEC's access policy caps automated requests at ten a second and requires a descriptive User-Agent; RegPing polls far below that.
- Investor alerts live on investor.gov, which blocks most automated fetchers.
